Tips on how to wash your motorcycle

How to wash your motorcycle in order not to damage or flood the electrical system? Are you asking yourself this question before the upcoming motorcycle season or the end of it?

The topic of motorcycle washing is very intriguing, because every motorcycle rider has his own reasons and beliefs how to do it correctly. What is the detail of motorcycle washing? It may turn out that while treating your motorcycle with a carchereer, you have flooded spark plugs, coils, carburetor, voltage regulator or you will damage the motorcycle chain itself.

7 Proven councils:

  • Do not wash your motorcycle in full sunlight, find a shady spot, as you are not sure how the chemicals used in full sun will behave.
  • Do not wash your motorcycle while it is still hot after riding, wait until it cools down.
  • Use a soft sponge for washing, clean rags and paper towels will also be useful.
  • Prepare a special preparation for cleaning your motorcycle, which will dissolve all impurities, dirt and insects.
  • Equip yourself with a chain cleaner, chain cleaner and chain lubricant.
  • Be careful with the carchereer, as high water pressure can damage and flood your bike’s components. If you wash your motorcycle on your own property, it’s better to use a garden hose that has much less water pressure. Check if the detergents you will be using are biodegradable.
  • When washing, watch out for electrical installations, carburettor, injectors, bearings and chain.

Where should I start?

Clean the chain first. You know very well that dust, oil and other contaminants form a sticky sludge on the surface of your motorcycle when you use it. This results in faster chain abrasion and shortens the life of the sprockets.

You can use Motul Chain Clean or Bel-Ray Chain Cleaner. Both will work very well! To clean the chain, place it on a central foot and, if your bike does not have one, use a special rack. You can lock the bike so that it can rotate the rear wheel.

Make the chain move by spinning the rear wheel and then spray the links with a special chain cleaner. You must repeat this until you are sure that the cleaner has been applied to all chain links. Wait a few minutes, then use a brush to clean the chain. Remove any debris with a cloth. If you find that the chain is still not clean enough, repeat the procedure.

Do not use metal or steel brushes to clean the chain. They will damage the sealing rings between the links, resulting in leakage of grease and rapid wear of the chain.

Make sure the chain is completely dry before you start to lubricate it. You can use Motul Chain Lube Road+ or Bel-Rey Super Clean Chain Lube for lubrication. When turning the rear wheel again, move the chain while applying a thin layer of grease. Remember to apply the grease from the inside out. Also check that you have lubricated all the chain links. In just 15 minutes, the lubricant has a good grip on the chain.

Washing your motorcycle

Motorcycles do not like high water pressure, but if you decide to wash your motorcycle with a carcherette, do it from a long distance and very gently. Pay particular attention to the electrical system, air filter, electronics and powertrain. First of all, rinse the entire motorcycle gently.

Wash it with a suitable agent, e.g. Motul Moto Wash (you can also distribute the product with a sponge). Rinse the cleaning agent thoroughly and dry the entire motorcycle with a towel (e.g. microfiber). If you find places that are not washed, you can use agents dedicated to specific parts, e.g. wheels, or leave the cleaning agent in the place of dirt again, wait and rinse again.

Motorcycle care

After thorough washing and drying of the motorcycle, it was time to take care of it. You can use a few products for this purpose. Use Motul Shine & Go to refresh the look of unpainted plastic, rubber parts and fairings. It forms a protective film that prevents dirt from sticking to your body.

If you want to take care of your seat… you can “treat” it with S100 Sitzbank Pflege. This will protect your seat from the harmful effects of the sun and minimize slippage.

Another proposal is a polishing paste for aluminium and chrome Motul Chrome & Alu Polish. The agent will help you to quickly remove stains or matting on chrome and aluminum surfaces.

Scratch marks and scratches from lacquered surfaces should be removed with S100 Luck und Kunststoff Polish.

The market offers us a lot of cleaning agents and motorcycle care products. Of course, what preparations you will use depends on you. The final effect of the care may cause that you will not get to know your own motorcycle:-)
